Safe, Effective all Natural Mosquito Repellant

Of major concern these days is the spread of West Nile Virus in many areas of the country. The most commonly recommended products contain DEET, a known carcinogenic pesticide/insecticide that stores in the fat cells of the body and is hard to detoxify. We offer the following combination of essential oils that is a non-toxic way of protecting yourself and your children:

In a bottle with 4 ounces of almond oil add 4 drops of each of these essential oils (We recommend Gritman Essential Oils): [Justen, activate a link to their website on our Links page with the name]

  • Thyme Oil
  • Lavender Oil
  • Peppermint
  • Lemongrass

After shaking well to mix, and before using on large skin areas, apply a few drops of the mixture to a small area to test for sensitivity. If this mix is too strong and redness occurs, add more almond oil or add to natural body lotions or crèmes.

To make a water-based spray add 5 drops of the above mixture to 1 Tablespoon of Witch Hazel and 4 Tablespoons of distilled water and spray on body or clothes. Increase amounts to make larger quantities.

HOW TO STAY HEALTHY DURING COLD AND FLU SEASON

With flu and cold season approaching we have some tips for keeping you and your family healthier.

  • First of all BE PREPARED! Each year the World Health Organization (WHO) makes a determination of which flu virus strains are most likely to be prevalent that flu season. These are the strains that flu shots are manufactured from so they change from year to year. However, statistics show that these shots are only about 20% effective and many people contract flu or have side effects from the shots.

    There is an alternate available

    We have a homeopathic formula availible each fall made from the WHO recommended flu strains. We suggest you start this product as soon as it is available in the fall; usually mid to late September. There are no side effects with this product and our clients who use it say they remain healthy.

    If you do experiance cold or flu symptoms it is very important to begin supporting the body with one or more of the following products immediately. By taking supportive measures at the first sign of symptoms you should be back to normal in a day or two.   • At the first sign of symptoms increase your Vitamin C intake to at least 4000 mg daily in split doses. Vitamin C helps to boost resistance. Be sure to use a buffered form of C. We recommend either Perque Potent-C Guard or Allergy Research Group Buffered C powder.

  • DO FLIES “BUG” YOU?

    In most parts of the world flies are considered a common pest. This is especially true when dining out or at home and on picnics. Try this suggestion: Flies are reported to avoid peppermint. Put a drop of peppermint oil on a Kleenex or napkin and lay on the table. Even an unwrapped piece of peppermint flavored chewing gum placed on the table at a restaurant has been effective. For outdoor buffets try diluting peppermint oil in some water and spraying the table or table covering where the food is located.

    NON-TOXIC AIR FRESHENERS

    If you have fresh mint, lavender, lemon verbena or other aromatic herbs growing in your yard place a stem or two in a small vase, place in kitchen, bath or other rooms, bruising a leaf occasionally to release the smell. These herbs may be added to floral arrangements too. A blend of pleasing essential oils in a spray bottle works well also. Mint or citrus oils leave a clean refreshing fragrance while pure vanilla extract poured into an old bowl, saucer, or even a jar lid and placed on top of a cabinet or bookcase makes your home smell like freshly baked cookies. Switch to cinnamon and clove oils for a holiday freshener (pumpkin pie and spiced cider anyone?). Don’t forget the old fashioned pomander made from whole cloves stuck into an orange or lemon. Many large health food stores sell the whole cloves in bulk.

    To remove unpleasant odors such as new paint and cigarette smoke use several containers of apple cider vinegar through out the house. Leave them out for several hours or days as needed.

    TRY THIS FOR CAR/MOTION SICKNESS

    Nibble on a protein bar and keep your face cool. It may help to wrap some ice in a cloth to be able to apply to face and neck. There are also several homeopathic remedies available from BHI for Dizziness and Nausea.
